November has been an exciting month starting with the wonderful performance of ‘Peace Takes Flight’ a moving tribute to Sadako Sasaki’s story of peace. Our Upper Elementary students set the stage for Killarney to celebrate peace through the power of music and tableaux.
Our Kindergarten classes have been learning about Tempo: Lento (slow), Andante (at a walking pace) and Presto (fast). They have been driving cars, following sound cues and playing a game called Race Car to help them experience the variance in speeds through their bodies. They have also met Daisy the Dalmation and Donald the Dinosaur and these new friends are helping the students explore the sound of ‘D’ as well as experience the differences between loud (forte) and soft (piano).
Our Lower Elementary have been working on our Winter Celebration presentation of a ‘Teddy Bears’ Christmas’. Students have been learning about performance and vocal production through the learning of the songs. Students have also learned how to warm up their instruments through vocal exercises and have learned about body awareness, deportment and ensemble ethics throughout the rehearsal process. Please join us for their presentation.
Our Upper Elementary have been working on learning the names of the notes of the lines and spaces. To start, a Note Name Rap helped identify the names of the notes. The students were divided into teams to play several games aimed at solidifying their learning: Frog Toss (a favourite), Note Draw, Note It, Note Name Baseball, Note Name Memory, Human Staff to name a few. The teams from all of the classes are working together to earn points that will culminate in a little treat for the teams that have accumulated the most points. A little F-U-N to help us learn! Team points have been posted outside of the Music Studio.
